Recently Garner Economics released a new study on the top metropolitan areas to have experienced employment growth since before the recession. Across the nation about half of the 370+ metropolitan areas are having a difficult time getting their employment back up like it was before the recession began. The Tri City Washington area is not one of those metro areas to be having trouble bouncing back, in fact they are actually ranked number one out of the 372 metro areas. Compared to five years ago the Tri Cities’ employment has increased by 5.4% from its peak employment rate before the recession. This past September employment was up to 102,200 up 5,500 from the previous September.

This weekend and next weekend Columbia Basin College’s theatre department will be performing a rendition of George Orwell’s 1984. Performances will take place in the CBC theatre in Pasco Washington on November 13-14 and 19-20. Each play will begin promptly at 7:30pm. One of our local ski resorts, White Pass Ski Resort, is getting close to opening the slopes for the weekend, but not before the Volunteer White Pass Ski Patrol holds their annual White Pass Ski & Snowboard Swap in Yakima Washington. This annual ski swap, which has been going on for over 40 years now, features new and used snowboards, shaped skis, traditional skis, and a variety of new and used clothing. New home sales are not doing too well nationwide but in Tri Cities Washington things are continuing to look up. During the month of September the amount of new homes sold in the Tri Cities was 80, an 8 percent increase from the previous month’s new homes sold. When compared to the new home sales throughout the nation which only rose 6.6 percent up from the 297,000 new homes sold in August, the Tri Cities is doing well. The average price of these new homes nationwide during the month of September was $257,500 a little higher than the Tri Cities average sale price of $252, 034.

For many years now Bethel Church has been holding a Fall Frenzy event towards the end of October at their main Richland campus. Over the past several years though Bethel began to branch out into the community and started holding their annual Fall Frenzy event at area schools. For a few years now, one of those locations has been Marcus Whitman Elementary School in Richland Washington. This year is no different, Fall Frenzy will be held at Marcus Whitman on October 30 from 6:30 to 8:00pm. The Fall Frenzy is similar to a carnival, there will be booths, games, tractor pulls and various events where children and adults can participate and receive goodies!
