This weekend and next weekend Columbia Basin College’s theatre department will be performing a rendition of George Orwell’s 1984. Performances will take place in the CBC theatre in Pasco Washington on November 13-14 and 19-20. Each play will begin promptly at 7:30pm. The cost of tickets is $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the door before the show.

George Orwell’s book, 1984, is a story about a society where there is constant war, pervasive government surveillance, and ceaseless government mind control. The story follows character Winston Smith, a man who works for the Ministry of Truth revising historical records so that they coincide with the party’s agenda. Sick and dissatisfied with his current situation, Winston decides to try and find the Brotherhood, a supposedly mythical group of underground rebels. Along the way Winston meets Julia, with whom he shares a secret, illegal, affair. Winston’s rebellion against the government eventually leads to his capture, torture, and conversion.
