Prosser, dubbed the Birthplace of the Washington Wine Industry, is known for its growing number of local wineries and the tourism which is generated. Prosser, the county seat, is located at the far western corner of Benton County just 50 miles from Yakima and 35 miles from the Tri-Cities. Its population is just over 5,100.

Prosser's Origin
The town of Prosser was founded by William Farrand Prosser, a Union Colonel in the Civil War from Pennsylvania, who settled in the area with his wife in 1882. Prosser was officially incorporated on March 2, 1899. When Prosser was settled there was only one Real Estate in Prossernatural tree in the area – all other trees were hand-planted.

Prosser is County Seat of Benton County. Prosser is known for it's wine production, temperate weather, pleasant citizens, and of course The Great Prosser Balloon Rally.

Geographical Details
Prosser is located at 46°12′25″N, 119°45′56″W (46.206921, -119.765612) GR1. It is 665 ft above sea level. One river, the Yakima River, runs through it. According to the United States Census Bureau, Prosser real estate has a total area of 11.5 km (4.4 mi). 11.1 km (4.3 mi) of it is land and 0.3 km (0.1 mi) of it (2.93%) is water.

Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 5,714 people, 2,023 households, and 1,396 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,272.6 inhabitants per square mile (491.4 /km2). There were 2,129 housing units at an average density of 474.2 per square mile (183.1 /km2). The racial makeup of the city was 76.1% White, 0.5% African American, 0.5% Native American, 2.0% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 17.6% from other races, and 3.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 37.2% of the population.

Real Estate in ProsserThere were 2,023 households of which 39.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 31.0% were non-families. 27.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.42.

The median age in the city was 32.8 years. 30.8% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.5% were from 25 to 44; 21.4% were from 45 to 64; and 13.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.7% male and 52.3% female.

Educational Institutions
Prosser’s public schools are part of the Prosser School District that has three elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools. The elementary schools are Whitstran, Keene-Riverview, and Prosser Heights. Middle school is Housel; and high schools are Prosser Falls Education Center, and Prosser High School (the Mustangs).
