Memorial Day Events around the Mid ColumbiaIn honor of those who have served and are serving there will be multiple ceremonies around the Mid Columbia on Memorial Day.  

At the Columbia Memorial Gardens in Pasco Washington the American Legion Post 34 will be holding a ceremony at 10:00 am and again at 1:00 pm at the Cityview Cemetery. Following the ceremonies will be beef stew and cornbread at the Legion Post in Pasco.

At 10:30 am at the new Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Governor Chris Gregoire will help open and dedicate the first state veteran’s cemetery which will be in Medical Lake. This cemetery will be able to serve nearly 140,000 veterans and their families in Eastern Washington.

Clover Island Inn is hosting a Summer of Fun and Music on the Island this summer. One of the first events of the summer is the 6th Annual Live Jimmy Buffett Tribute Party on May 30. The reception will take place at the Sandberg Event Center in West Richland, Washington from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. LIGO, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory in Richland Washington, will be giving a public tour on Friday, May 28 at 3:00pm. The two-hour tour will include a presentation by your tour host about the research LIGO is doing, a walking tour of the observatory, and a visit to the control room. All ages are welcomed on the tour, it is recommended that those interested in taking a tour wear comfortable walking shoes; the facility is wheelchair accessible.

U.S. Army Sponsored Fever Game with Special Silent Auction for Wounded Warrior Project
This Saturday night, May 29, the Tri City Fever Football team will be playing against the Fairbanks Grizzlies. The Fever team and the U.S. Army will be joining forces for this memorial weekend game. Players of the Fever team will be wearing special edition U.S. Army camouflage jerseys for the game. During the game a silent auction will take place for the special edition jerseys to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Tri Cities Quilters Guild Sponsors Rosemary Eichorn Workshop and Luncheon
The Tri-City Quilters Guild is sponsoring a workshop and a fashion show by the well-known fiber artist, Rosemary Eichorn. Friday through Sunday, May 14-16, Rosemary will teach a three-day workshop called Art Quilt or Reversible Vest with an Attitude at the Benton PUD Auditorium in Kennewick Washington. Rosemary’s workshop is for anyone with at least a basic knowledge of quilting who would like to tap into their well of creativity. The workshop will go from 9:00am to 4:00pm each day.
