The Art Department at Columbia Basin College is proudly hosting the exhibit, Encased in Wax. Encased in Wax features 37 small scale encaustic paintings by Susan Najarian and Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch, Western Washington artists. Each of the 37 pieces of art was created using an ancient form of painting called encaustic, this means that layers of pigment are covered in wax and combined to support the heat. Each painting is a representation of the outside world whether it is a depiction of people, plants, or animals.

Beginning today in Pasco Washington is the annual Heritage Days at Sacajawea State Park. Heritage Days is presented by the Mid-Columbia Traditional Arts and Music Association and the Wildhorse Foundation. This is a weekend long event that begins today, September 24 at 9:00am-3:00pm, and goes through Sunday. Saturday the event will begin at 10:00am and go until 5:00pm, Sunday the event will begin at 10:00am and go until 3:00pm.

The weekend will be full of many activities; Friday is devoted to school visits but is still open to the public. On Saturday, September 25, the City of Richland will be holding their 10th City Fair beginning at 10:30am and going until 1:30pm. The fair will be a way for the residents of Richland Washington and the rest of the Tri Cities to come learn about the municipal services, programs and projects. Come by the Richland City Hall on the corner of George Washington Way and Swift Blvd where there will be activities, displays and demonstrations for all ages. There will be a city employee from each department manning a display with handouts, games and demonstrations.

The Allied Arts Gallery in Richland Washington will be hosting the annual Northwest Designer Craftsman exhibition this year. The exhibition began on August 31 and will go through September 24. This annual exhibition began in 1954 and features various art created from traditional material that blurs the line between craft and fine art. The exhibition was primarily created to promote excellence of design and craftsmanship as well as to fuel the public’s appreciation and interest in art and fine craftsmanship. Columbia Basin College LogoThe Art Department at Columbia Basin College, in Pasco Washington, will be putting on their Annual Juried Student Exhibition. The exhibition will begin on May 17 in the Esvelt Gallery at CBC, there will be an opening reception and awards ceremony on May 20 beginning at 7:00pm. A collection of student work will be displayed that reflects the finest efforts of CBC art students, past and present.
