Tomorrow, August 28, head on out to Howard Amon Park in Richland Washington for the Bark for Life Rally. For several years now the nationally recognized Relay for Life event has begun a Bark for Life Rally. This rally is a place where dogs and their owners can participate together with the purpose of raising money to support the American Cancer Society. This year it has been decided to throw a rally here in Richland. There will be many Demonstrations and Vendors available at the rally to help raise money. The top 12 fundraising dogs or dog families will earn a feature spot in the Bark for Life Calendar. All contributions made will be totaled at the close of the event. On the second Saturday and the fourth Friday of every month the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory in Richland Washington, also known as LIGO, is open to the public. Come on out at 3:00pm on the fourth Friday and at 1:30pm on the second Saturday of the month for a drop in tour to learn about what takes place at LIGO. The Tri Cities Washington Crime Stoppers is offering a personal safety class to help people how to identify dangerous situations and how to react in these situations. This personal safety class will be taught by Don Gulla, a veteran law enforcement officer who trains other cops on crisis intervention and defensive tactics. More than 65 years ago plutonium produced at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation was used to create Fat Man, the atomic bomb used on Nagasaki. Today at 8:30pm many will get together for a memorial at John Dam Plaza in Richland Washington to mark the 65 anniversary of the bombing at Nagasaki, Japan. Those in attendance will be able to take part in music and prayer to remember the past with hope for the future. One of the highlights of the evening will be the ringing of the Bell of Peace that the mayor of Nagasaki gifted to Richland. The Bell of Peace is modeled after a church bell that was rung every day after the bombing to console the survivors. Due to popular consumer demand, the First Annual Vineyard Trip to the Tagaris Estate Vineyards in the Wahluke Slope AVA has been scheduled for Saturday, September 11.

The Wahluke Slope AVA is a 13-mile-wide gravel bar created by the ice age floods that ravaged Eastern Washington some 15,000 years ago. It's bordered to the north by the Saddle Mountains and on the other three sides by the Columbia River.

One of the state's warmest grape growing regions, top winemakers consider the Wahluke Slope as the backbone of the Washington Wine Industry. On Friday, August 13 the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) in Richland Washington will be hosting Friday Night sky Lights. Come out and look at planets, stars, meteors, and more! This will be a great thing to bring the whole family to! The evening will consist of a showing of the film “Monster of the Milky Way” at 7:30pm, a showing of the film “Seeing in the Dark” at 8:30 and then night sky viewing at 9:30pm for all who are in attendance; the night sky viewing will last until 1:30am. During the night sky viewing there will be telescopes available to look through and see many objects in the night sky whether near or far.

This musical comedy will be performed by theatre students and faculty at the CBC Theatre in Pasco Washington.
