The Tri Cities Washington Crime Stoppers is offering a personal safety class to help people how to identify dangerous situations and how to react in these situations. This personal safety class will be taught by Don Gulla, a veteran law enforcement officer who trains other cops on crisis intervention and defensive tactics. Gulla was on the Olympic Security Team in Atlanta in 1996 and again in Salt Lake City in 2002.There will be two sessions on August 28, the first will be from 8:00-11:30 in a classroom setting at the Kennewick Police Department where those in attendance will learn tactical communications and awareness. The second session will be from 1:00pm-4:30pm at the Kennewick Activity Center where those in attendance will learn how to survive challenging situations. During these two sessions Gulla will identify and demonstrate techniques for handling angry people, acknowledging and deflecting verbal abuse, recognizing threats, prioritizing information and preparing for the “what-if” game. The class is open for men and women and children over 13 years of age. The cost to attend is $40 for the morning session and $60 for the afternoon session.
