Employment Rates Continuing to Look Up in Tri Cities

The Tri Cities employment rates are still looking up. Last month employment was at 96,800 nonfarm jobs, up 3.9% from last year at the same time when there were 93,200 nonfarm jobs. Employment numbers were also up between months with a 1,400 increase in nonfarm jobs between February and March. Employment growth over the past year occurred in fields like, manufacturing, professional and business services, retail trade and the government sector. The growth between February and March occurred in trade, transportation, warehousing and utilities sector, retail trade industry, administrative and support services, and the leisure and hospitality industry. YMCA Fun Run in May

The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Cities will be hosting a healthy kid’s fun run on May 22 at Leslie Groves Park in Richland. The event will include a 50-yard dash for kids 6 and under, a 1K and a 5K for all ages. The 50-yard dash will begin at 8:30a, the 1K will begin at 8:45a, and the 5K will begin at 9:00a. following the runs there will be bounce houses, a fruit smoothie station, watermelon eating contests, and games. To register for the run participants may go online to the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Cities’ website, their office, or go to Runners Soul in Kennewick.

Kennewick and Richland Police Departments Offering Seminar for Landlords

The Kennewick police department and the Richland police department have been joining together for the past several years to put on a free landlord seminar. This seminar is a part of their Crime Resistant Community Living Program. The class will be on April 20 from 8:00am until 5:00pm at the Kennewick Police Department. The class will inform managers and owners of residential rental properties about recognizing drug and gang activity, landlord tenant law, code enforcement, and active property managed. Landlords will also learn about screening tenants to get rental, criminal and credit history. Port of Benton Has Many Projects on the Agenda for 2010

The Port of Benton has planned for numerous construction projects on the agenda for 2010. Each of the planned projects will be in Richland, Benton City, Prosser, or Crow Butte Park. This spring $1.2 million will go towards rebuilding the intersection of two runways at the airport. The Richland Airport is pleased to welcome Zero Gravity, a plane building company. Benton Franklin Volunteer Center in Need of Yarn

Volunteer Center crafters are nearing the end of their supply of yarn. The center makes clothes and accessories for babies, children, and elderly, these items are distributed to area schools and agencies. The Group is looking, and asking, for donations of all kinds of yarn, they would really like bright colors and pastels but would accept anything. Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory Hosting a Family Day

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory will be holding a family day on Saturday April 24 beginning at 1:30pm and will go until 4:00pm. This afternoon of fun will feature activities for preschool and elementary school children. Come see LIGO in action and enjoy hands-on schience activities tailored for the young and the young at heart. Visitors will have the opportunity to take a tour of the Observatory and are encouraged to come for part or all of the afternoon. All ages are welcome and admission is free. Catholic Charities Spokane to Start Second Housing Project in Pasco

Catholic Charities Spokane has just begun building their second housing project in Pasco. The first Pasco project built by the nonprofit group was Tepeyac Haven  off of 22nd Ave which opened in 2007. The group has also built Desert Haven in Othello which opened in 2004. Bishop Topel Haven, the new housing project that the nonprofit has begun in Pasco will be able to house 43 farm-worker families. Catholic Charities Spokane says there is a high demand for these houses year-round, Desert Haven currently has 1,000 people waiting for one of the 45 units to open. Bishop Topel Haven will most likely be ready for residents next spring or early summer. Applications for Bishop Topel Haven will not be accepted until about six weeks before they will…

Community Concerts of the Tri Cities Releases Next Years Schedule

Community Concerts of the Tri Cities was created for the purpose of bringing world class entertainment to the Columbia Basin Region. The Community Concerts of the Tri Cities are now looking for members to join for the 2010-2011 season, members will receive tickets for five concerts (listed below). Membership costs are $45 for Adults, $20 for students who are full time and under 22, and $105 for a family which includes 2 adults and 3 students; for those who pay for their membership before May 10, 2010 tickets will cost $5 less for adults and students, and $10 less for a family.
