Yoke’s Fresh Market in West Richland will be hosting a Mother’s Day Pie Sale to benefit White Bluffs Center for Quilting & Fiber Arts. The fundraiser will take place on May 8, 2010 from 10:00a until 4:00p at Yoke’s. All you have to do is pick your favorite ingredients and watch the pie get put together just for you in the store. Take home you Mother's favorite pie cook it, and serve it to her on Mother's Day!

Biodiesel Refinery in Richland to be Funded by Stimulus Money

By the end of this year Gen-X Energy Group could have the first phase of a biodiesel refinery could be up and running. Gen-X Energy Group was awarded $720,000 to build the refinery. The money that was awarded is stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that was awarded by Gov. Christine Gregoire and the state Department of Commerce. This refinery that Gen-X will be building is going to use new technology that reduces the cost of manufacture and operation through process simplification and heat integration. This process would be one-tenth of the energy used in a traditional biorefinery plant. The biodiesel refinery would produce 6 million gallons of biodiesel each year and create up to ten new and permanent jobs in the initial phase.…

Pasco Downtown Revitalization in the Near Future

Pasco has been making plans to revitalize the downtown area for the past 13 years but nothing has come from these plans. Because of the lack of activity in the downtown revitalization efforts the Pasco City Council has decided to create a Pasco Downtown Development Association. This association will be partnering with Columbia Basin College and the Pasco City Council to provide financial support for remodels and education and business plan aid. This is the third plan that has been created and is being met by some skepticism. Councilwoman Rebecca Francik says that having a plan isn’t enough, she wants to see something aggressive happen with the plan.

Tri Cities Housing Market Continues to Do Well

The Tri Cities housing market is continuing to do better. This past March 272 homes were sold, up 30% from March 2009 when 209 homes sold. Pending home sales were also up last month with 471 pending sales, when compared to the same time last year when there were only 299 pending sales. The reason for home sales and pending sales being up is due in part to the $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit and to the $6,500 tax credit for qualified buyers. The housing market in the Tri Cities is definitely on the upswing, this is especially true when looking at the number of pending sales and the number of sales. This increase in sales and pending sales also shows that the Tri Cities isn’t as affected by foreclosures or distressed properties like…

Spring Barrel Tasting Weekend 2011

Spring Barrel Tasting Weekend is going on next weekend, April 15-17 throughout the Tri Cities Washington and surrounding areas. There are nearly 50 wineries involved in this event this year, most of them are open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; a few are open by appointment only. Some wineries will have live music, arts and craft vendors and/or education demonstrations. Tasters must bring their own glass or purchase one at your first stop, there is no way the winery dishwashers would be able to keep up.

KNDU Annual Family Food Drive

On April 24 KNDU will be hosting their Annual Family Food Drive at their studio in Kennewick. All proceeds from the food drive will go to 2nd Harvest Tri Cities. On the 24th they will be collecting food and cash donations from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm. Last year the food drive collected over the equivalent of 600,000 pounds of food; this include large donations from sponsors like Bechtel/URS and others who donated $81,000 cash and over 20,000 pounds of food.
