By the end of this year Gen-X Energy Group could have the first phase of a biodiesel refinery could be up and running. Gen-X Energy Group was awarded $720,000 to build the refinery. The money that was awarded is stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that was awarded by Gov. Christine Gregoire and the state Department of Commerce. This refinery that Gen-X will be building is going to use new technology that reduces the cost of manufacture and operation through process simplification and heat integration. This process would be one-tenth of the energy used in a traditional biorefinery plant. The biodiesel refinery would produce 6 million gallons of biodiesel each year and create up to ten new and permanent jobs in the initial phase. The plant will also be producing technical grade glycerol, Gen-X believes there is a higher demand for it than standard glycerol containing impurities. The refinery will be built at Horn Rapids Industrial Park on the Tri City & Olympia Railroad Company who is allowing Gen-X to build on the land. If all goes well with this new Richland plant then Gen-X will be building two more biodiesel production models.
