About Washington Elementary School
Washington Elementary School, the Home of the Tigers, is in a midsized city setting and managed by the Kennewick School District education agency. It is categorized as a Primary School, in the county of Benton, Kennewick City. It offers Kindergarten to Fifth Grade with approximately 520 students enrolled in Washington Elementary School with 22 teachers, making up the student-teacher ratio of 23 students for every teacher.
Recently Renovated
Washington Elementary School has just been remodeled. Together with the physical change that took place, internal changes have been made, too. Intercom systems, internet, telephones in every room are some of the additions. This is in line with teaching the students about modern technology as well as student safety. The building is air conditioned, making it possible to offer summer school programs. Changes have been made in the way Reading is taught. The number of students per reading class has been lessened. Two hours is allotted for reading lessons from Kindergarten to Third Grade. Kindergarten to Fifth Grade uses the McMillan reading series. The focus is for Third Graders to meet the 90% student reading at or above grade level of Kennewick School District.
Learning Excellence
The Curriculum and Instruction Renewal Cycle for Learning Excellence is a new process which permits parents and teachers to adopt curriculum and materials that will best teach the Essential Academic Learning Requirements set by Washington State and Kennewick School District. The Core Knowledge Curriculum is adopted by Washington students. Almost all the teachers have attended the National Core Knowledge Conference to be able to develop lessons and gather materials for the betterment of the curriculum.
