About Cottonwood Elementary School
Currently holding classes from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade with around 527 students in total, this public elementary school challenges all its students not only to dream and discover but also to achieve. It focuses on core curriculum areas of reading, writing, math and science. During its first year, it was recognized for having achieved the Kennewick District’s Reading Goal where 100% of its students are reading at grade level. Similarly, 90% of its grade 3, 4, and 5 students achieved grade level math standards. Quite a feat for an elementary school only nearly 3 years old! This may be attributed to the dedication of their principal, Mary Ann Kautzy, and her team of highly competent teachers and staff who, at the same time, also ensure that even struggling students are given enough support to become successful via the response to the Intervention Model presently utilized.
The school also conducts programs for special education including an Autism Class, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. Likewise, counseling services, orchestra, and marimba are also available.
