John Irving is a native of Exeter, New Hampshire but is now a resident of Toronto. Setting Free the Bears, which was his very first novel, was published in 1968. John was only twenty-six when he wrote Setting Free the Bears. John used to be a wrestler and he stayed in this industry for twenty years. When John was forty seven, he ended his career as a wrestling coach.

John Irving has written several novels and most of it have been translated into different languages."A Prayer for Owen Meany" happens to be John Irving's best-selling novel.
