Annual Prosser Fly-In and Show at Prosser Airport, WashingtonHow about Cool Desert Nights…with wings!? Well that’s exactly what Prosser Washington’s Fly-In is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 18, 19 and 20. The Fly-In is an annual event sponsored by the South Central Washington Experimental Aircraft Association; there are various kinds of planes in many different stages on display and flying around. Some of the planes that usually come every year are a restored 1930s Howard, a Long Easy that looks like it is flying backwards because the larger wings are in the back and the smaller ones are in the front, there will be home-built planes, planes that are in the process of being built or restored and a wide array of other planes. The Prosser Washington Fly-In is a family friendly event, so bring the whole family down to the Prosser airport to check out some neat planes and talk to many of the owners. There is no cost to go, look around and talk to people.

About the Event
Fun starts with an appreciation dinner Friday night at the airport. On the following days, planes will begin to arrive at the airport at about 8:00am. Activities kick into full swing on Saturday morning with a fly-in breakfast that will be served from 7:00 until 9:30 in the morning.

On Saturday, July 19th, between 9:00 am and 2:00pm is generally the time with the most planes on the ground. After lunch on Saturday there will be plane related videos shown about topics such as planes during World War II and bush pilots in Alaska. On Saturday evening at about 8:00pm there will be a Plane-themed movie shown for free. Plus, throughout the day there will be classes and seminars featuring the Ninety-Nines, the Yakima Civil Air Patrol, Yakima Valley Aero Modelers and nostalgic war bird bi-planes.

Now how about some food? If you arrive at the Prosser Airport on either Saturday or Sunday at 7:00 am or a little later the EAA chapter members will be serving scrambled eggs, ham, fruit, and orange juice or coffee for $5. Chapter members will also be serving lunch and dinner on Saturday, the 19th. Lunch will be hot dog or chili dog with chips and a soft drink for $4 or shrimp, crab, or chef’s salad and a soft drink for $6. Dinner will be sirloin, salmon, or veggie burgers with shrimp, crap, or chef’s salad and a soft drink for $8.

This sounds like a nice event. We have a fly-in, but it isn't as big or as well organized. Nice to know the community does fun things for free in your area.

I had an uncle with an Army bi-plane just like that blue and gold one. It was pretty cool to fly in, but I did not care for the dinky lap belt.
