About Jason Lee Elementary School
Jason Lee Elementary School is located in the county of Benton, Richland City, in southeastern Washington. One of the Tri-Cities of Washington, along with Kennewick and Pasco, it was once a small town with farming as its main source of income. In 1943, the US Army bought almost 2000 square kilometers of land for the workers of the Hanford Atomic Works and from a population of only 300 residents, it increased to approximately 25,000 towards the end of 1945.
Jason Lee Elementary School is run by the Richland School District education agency. This school district serves Richland and West Richland cities. With an approximate enrollment of 10,000, and more than 1,000 employees, it has eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools.
Categorized as a Primary School, it offers Kindergarten to Fifth Grade to approximately 680 students. The 35 hardworking and dedicated teachers make up the student-teacher ratio of 19 students for every teacher.
Origin
This school was named after Jason Lee, an American Missionary, who helped organize the American colonial government in Oregon of North America. Built in 1951, it had an additional wing built three years after. It has seven portable classrooms in an 81, 372 square feet of land. The school had a new roof, new windows, and air conditioning in 1987.
Jason Lee Elementary School has classrooms which boast of its being spacious, an auditorium, a computer laboratory, and a playground which is safe for the students. All of these were the result of the fundraising activities and the hard work of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association.
School Improvement
The School Improvement Plan was developed by the staff and site council to improve every student’s learning in Reading Comprehension by using research-based methods, in Writing by using the Teaching Writing: Style and Structure and the Six Traits Writing, and in Mathematics by stressing number sense.
To be able to develop leadership and responsibility, the school offers programs like the Peer Helpers, Safety Patrol, Library Helpers, and Book Buddies and Tutors. Enrichment activities like the Choir, Orchestra, Science Extravaganza, Marimba Ensemble, Talent Night, and a lot more are also offered. There are also clubs and sports to join. Activities with parent involvement like the School Carnival, Family Book Fair Night, Math Night, and Chili Feed, is also a part of the school’s activity.
With the help of both the staff and the parents, the school was able to achieve successes. To name a few, there is the school discipline plan which is very effective and focuses on the rules of Cooperation, Attitude, Respect, Effort, and Safety; a PTA who supports the staff and the students in various ways; sessions with parents of four-year-olds for Kindergarten Readiness; a modern computer laboratory; the completion of some of the teachers in LASER training in science; and the addition of the Literacy Specialist to support classroom instruction in reading.
With its mission to provide an environment that is stimulating, caring, and with an open communication, they prepare students to become life-long learners, to become responsible citizens, and to become inspired to be able to reach their fullest potentials.
