About Chief Joseph Middle School
Established in 1951, the school is named after Old Joseph’s successor, who became the most popular Indian General in the history of the United States. Chief Joseph Middle School is run by the Richland School District education agency and categorized as a Middle School offering Sixth Grade to Eighth Grade. It is located in the county of Benton and Richland City, in a mid-sized city setting. There are approximately 760 students and 42 teachers. Student-teacher ratio is 18 students for every teacher.
The school mission is to give a curriculum challenging and aligned with the standards set by the state, in which students will develop their learning skills through effective questioning. Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and History are the focus of the school to prepare the students for the challenges they will encounter through their middle school years. Arts is also being promoted. There are four teaching teams for the basic academic classes in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. There are also two elective classes per day. The Sixth Grade and Seventh Grade Exploratory class may include Physical Education, Music, Technology, Spanish, Mathematics, and Drama. The Eighth Grade has semester courses to choose from like Spanish, Art, Physical Education, and Debate.
Dedicated to Students
Each student is given special attention. Expectations for the teachers to teach and all students to learn are high. The hardworking and dedicated staff provides the students with the instructions they need to be able to learn. They care for their students and support them in all academic areas. Students with above average grades are given extra activities to enrich them both academically and in extra curricular while students with low grades are encouraged and supported and assisted in activities for them to be able to cope up.
Parent Involved with Students
Parents play a big part at the Chief Joseph Middle School team. Their role is very important in their child’s education. In order to be successful, a child should be confident, responsible, caring, focused. All these behaviors are learned at home. Parents should attend to their child’s basic physical and emotional needs, as well as their academic needs. Chief Joseph Middle School prepares students in the transition from their childhood to their pre adolescent years.
