An important consideration for many considering purchasing Kennewick real estate is whether there are good opportunities for older people to be active, contributing members of the community. Being involved is important as we get older, to help us feel connected, valuable, and to help us learn new skills and talents. One of Kennewick, Washington’s great assets is the Senior Center, aimed at helping people over 55 do exactly that.
Meet Other Kennewick Real Estate Owners
Geared towards seniors aged 55 and older living in Kennewick real estate, the Kennewick Senior Center offers seniors a chance to meet new people, participate in activities, and learn new things. The senior center’s goal is to provide seniors with access to activities and services that are relevant to them, as well as give them the chance to continue learning new skills and live full and healthy lives.
Ask Your Kennewick Realtor about Senior Sports Programs
To encourage Kennewick seniors to lead active lifestyles, there are several fitness programs available at the senior center. Stretch ‘n Tone classes help increase coordination and balance through no-impact stretches and exercises. Low-impact programs such as Aerobic Dance let seniors have fun, while increasing muscle tone, flexibility and helping with weight loss. Senior Clogging Classes offer even more opportunities to have fun, learn a new skill, all while contributing to better physical condition. There are also several pool based water classes in varying levels of difficulty.
Learn How to Look for Real Estate Online
Other important skills are taught at the senior center, including a selection of computer classes aimed at helping seniors get a better grasp on technology. For those who suffer from a general “fear” of computers, there is the Computing Basics class that guides students through the fundamentals of using a computer. “The Ins and Outs of the Internet” helps seniors understand internet technology, and assists them in using email, downloading, and performing searches, as well as other internet-based fundamentals.
Get the Chance to Learn New Skills
Arts and Crafts can be a rewarding part of anyone’s life, and it is no different for the over 50 set at the Kennewick senior center. Painting techniques can be learned through the Watercolor and Acrylic Painting Class or in Ede J’s Oil Painting class. Each Wednesday and Friday, there are woodcarving lessons available, and there are also clay sculpting, quilting and sewing classes.
One of the senior center’s most popular classes is the AARP Driver Safety Course, led by Don Darsow. The class educates seniors about the changes that take place as they get older, and how these changes affect their driving habits. Participants take part in a self-evaluation, learn about their responsibilities as drivers, and receive a certificate of completion, which is often accepted by insurance providers for discounts.
Access to Senior Resources
The senior center also gives seniors access to important resources, such as the AARP, Aging and Long Term Care, Adult Day Services, Benton Franklin Health District and more. Whether seniors have housing concerns, or need assistance with food resources, the center can assist in finding solutions to problems common among seniors.
Seniors lead a Full and Healthy life
Among the other activities available at the Kennewick senior center are: pinochle and bridge games, pancake breakfasts, billiards, dance events, seminars – even performances by the Kettlescrapers Singing Group. The senior center gives senior citizens a chance to interact with their peers, make new friends, enhance their skills and simply have fun!
