Park Middle School
Park Middle School is classified as a Middle School, operated by Kennewick School District education agency, located in the county of Benton and Kennewick. Kennewick has been known for its Concord grape vines and the Kennewick Man, a more than 9,000 year-old skeleton which was found in 1996 in the Columbia River during the yearly hydroplane races. The student population is approximately 840 students and 44 teachers making up the student-teacher ratio of 19 students for every teacher.
Origin
Park Middle School was built in 1963 and renovated in 1999. Four buildings, gymnasiums, two baseball fields, football and soccer fields, a practice softball field and running track sits on a 30-acre land.
Technology
In line with the technology of today, Park Middle School has installed in all of the classrooms projectors, cameras, computers with Internet access. The school also has a computer laboratory and a computer classroom.
Parental Involvement
Park Middle School and the Kennewick School District believe that parent involvement is a crucial part in a child’s education. Every end of a quarter conferences is being held. Parents are invited to come to school to have a talk with the teachers and find out how their child is doing in school, how they can help at home, about the grades. Parents in turn can ask the teachers questions regarding their child. Research shows that a good parent-teacher relationship will increase a child’s learning ability.
Student Clubs
There are clubs for every student. For Sixth to Eighth Grade students who enjoy writing or sketching, they can join the Mesmer Writers. The Cub Challenge program is open to all students who are interested. The program urges students to be the best that they can be and to take part and be active in school and community activities. The school’s discipline program called Make Your Day lets teachers teach and students learn without intervention from anyone. The emphasis of this program is decision making and responsibility.
School Safety
Top priority of Park Middle School is safety. Violence is not tolerated in the campus. The school often practices the lockdown and evacuation drills. During Lockdown, the staff and the students lock themselves inside the classrooms and exterior doors of the building until it is safe to open them again. Evacuation drills are practiced often to make sure that if an emergency arises, fast and orderly evacuation will be done. Lockdown and evacuation drills are in line with the Kennewick School District Emergency Response Plan.
