Daughter of Hanford Exhibit At The REACH In Richland, WashingtonOn Saturday, August 1 the REACH Center is having an exhibit that tells the stories of 12 women who have influenced and been influenced by the Hanford nucelar site in Richland, Washington. Jet Boat And B-Reactor Tour At The REACH In Richland, WashingtonEveryone is invited to join the Jet Boat And B-Reactor Tour at the REACH located at 1943 Columbia Park Trail in Richland, Washington on Saturday, August 22 from 9:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon.

Details of the Jet Boat and B-Reactor Tour
The tour will begin at the REACH with a lecture by a B-reactor expert. Then you will proceed to the marina and get on board the Columbia River Journey’s jet boat for a trip to the Hanford Reach to learn about the history of the REACH and to see the B-reactor from the water.

The Jet Boat And B-Reactor Tour includes a fabulous lunch on board as you drift the Columbia River. The tour also includes: tour guides, lunch and jet boat.

Registration fee is $145.

The Eastern Ice Age Floods Scablands At The REACH In Richland, WashingtonOn Saturday, August 1 join Age Floods expert, Gary Kleinknecht, on The Eastern Ice Age Floods Scablands tour of the remote and less well-known southern portion of the Cheney-Palouse Scabland Tract. The tour will be from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon.

This tract is in close proximity to the Palouse country of eastern Washington, that is why the scablands of this area feature many streamlined loess islands separated by scablands and coulees. There are no major highways that traverse this tour’s route, so participants will view sights known by the few local residents, but very few travelers.

About The Science of Snowflakes
The event will be featuring the life story of Wilson A. “Snowflake” Bentley, the self-taught American scientist and photographer who was among the first to photograph snowflakes, prove that each snowflake has six sides, and that no tow snowflakes are alike.

The children’s book based on Bentley’s life will make for a fun story time. Last but not least, snowflake patterns will be provided

National Wildlife Refuge Week At Hanford Reach National MonumentTo honor the National Wildlife Refuge Week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is partnering with The REACH to host events centered around the Hanford Reach National Monument on Tuesday, October 14; Thursday, October 16; Friday October 17; and Friday, October 24. Annually, the country sets aside a week to celebrate their wildlife heritage and a refuge system unrivaled anywhere in the world.
