My Hanford – A Personal History Presentation in Kennewick

On April 17, at 7PM, Kathleen Flenniken will have a presentation at the Mid-Columbia Libraries in Kennewick. East Benton Historical Society will host this presentation. 

Wide-Scale Environmental Cleanup 
Currently, Hanford is entangled in an environmental cleanup that is considered the world’s largest, by far. Included in this cleanup project is the construction of a $12.2 billion waste treatment plant, which has been beset by problems like aging workforce, a history of secrecy, and a reputation for punishing whistleblowers.

While there have been plenty of news reports about the costly Hanford programs, most citizens of Washington State have very little knowledge about the site and its history.

Free Presentation – Colorectal Cancer at TCCC in Kennewick

A couple of years ago, the Centers for Disease Control or CDC reported that while the number of colorectal cancer deaths throughout the United States have drastically gone down in recent years, Washington still ranks number one in the country for the highest rate of colon cancer deaths. The numbers are staggering: 21.1 per 100,000 deaths in Washington, D.C. alone.

Don’t Be Left Behind
This bit of information should prompt everyone to learn more about colorectal cancer especially since this kind of matter is something uncomfortable to deal with.

Fortunately, there will be a free presentation about colorectal cancer on March 25, from 12PM to 1PM, at the Tri Cities Cancer Center – Wellness Center. Luay Ailabouni, MD will preside over the presentation.

Richland Washington Holds 10th City Fair

On Saturday, September 25, the City of Richland will be holding their 10th City Fair beginning at 10:30am and going until 1:30pm. The fair will be a way for the residents of Richland Washington and the rest of the Tri Cities to come learn about the municipal services, programs and projects. Come by the Richland City Hall on the corner of George Washington Way and Swift Blvd where there will be activities, displays and demonstrations for all ages. There will be a city employee from each department manning a display with handouts, games and demonstrations.
