The Reach Museum in Richland, Washington is a one-of-a-kind destination for history buffs and art aficionados alike. Established in 1987, this amazing museum features collections of items from the Columbia River Basin that represent the diverse cultures of the region’s past as well as pieces from the present. From Native American artifacts to modern contemporary art displays, you’ll find something for everyone here!
Although established in 1987, the current building opened in 2014. The Reach has a 14,000 square foot ground floor which contains the galleries, rotating exhibit, a great hall, and a store. The museum has seen approximately 70,000 visitors since opening in July 2014, and has worked with about 15,000 students as of December, 2015.
When you visit the Reach Museum, you’ll be able to explore permanent exhibits such as the Archaeology Gallery which highlights regional archaeological discoveries, or the America West Gallery which explores the stories of the early settlers who made their way across the continent. You’ll also find rotating exhibits showcasing special collections and artists like Willy Leake, considered one of the foremost painters of landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. There’s truly something for everyone at The Reach Museum.
From Native American culture to World War II stories, there are plenty of artifacts and stories to explore inside. Guests can take part in hands-on activities such as panning for gold and sifting through fossils or view life-size replicas of Northwest animals. And don't forget to check out the 3D theater, where visitors can experience a movie like never before.
The Reach Museum also regularly hosts events and educational programs throughout the year such as the popular Family Day celebration and Super Science Saturdays, perfect for aspiring scientists!
