  • Look for signs of neglect like broken windows, dilapidated buildings, missing street lights, graffiti, abandoned lots and messy yards. These are usually signs of a bad neighborhood.
  • Check the lawns. If there are litters everywhere and trash is not picked, it shows that the people living there care less about the neighborhood.
  • If you have kids, check the park or playground if it usable and clean. Also check for clear entries and exit.
  • Lastly, visit the neighborhood at different hours. Find out if it people living here walk outside in these hours. Keep in mind that an active street life is one of the greatest defenses against street crime.
