On Friday, August 13 the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) in Richland Washington will be hosting Friday Night sky Lights. Come out and look at planets, stars, meteors, and more! This will be a great thing to bring the whole family to! The evening will consist of a showing of the film “Monster of the Milky Way” at 7:30pm, a showing of the film “Seeing in the Dark” at 8:30 and then night sky viewing at 9:30pm for all who are in attendance; the night sky viewing will last until 1:30am. During the night sky viewing there will be telescopes available to look through and see many objects in the night sky whether near or far.

The Columbia Basin College Arts and Humanities Department is pleased to present as part of their Summer Showcase, a wonderful musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. This musical comedy will be performed by theatre students and faculty at the CBC Theatre in Pasco Washington. The Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership will be hosting the first ever annual Painted Chair contest in the Tri Cities on July 19. Chairs may range in style, it could be a bench, kitchen chair, lawn chair, or any other sort of seat. Each contestant must also have a vote box which needs to be decorated and have a slot at the top for vote slips to slide through. Contestants must provide their own chair, decorations, and vote box. At the Columbia Memorial Gardens in Pasco Washington the American Legion Post 34 will be holding a ceremony at 10:00 am and again at 1:00 pm at the Cityview Cemetery. Following the ceremonies will be beef stew and cornbread at the Legion Post in Pasco.

At 10:30 am at the new Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Governor Chris Gregoire will help open and dedicate the first state veteran’s cemetery which will be in Medical Lake. This cemetery will be able to serve nearly 140,000 veterans and their families in Eastern Washington.
