What is their difference?
A production builder concurrently builds several homes based on a library of home plans. Every home is customized in numerous key aspects while custom builder usually creates a unique home that provides an even greater variety of design choices that is normally built on a single lot. Their approach is totally different too.

Production builders offer home and land package, a range of house plans and build homes priced for first-time, move-up and luxury home buyers. Custom Builders on the contrary, build homes on built on land owned or acquired by the client, provide a floor plan drawn from scratch and works with architect and builders for the design and the construction process.
