Be A Food Scientist: Science of Food from Farm to Table Richland WAKids are invited to join in the Week Long Day Camps at The Reach, 1943 Columbia Park Trail in Richland Washington. The week day long camps starts Monday through Saturday, August 10 to 15 from 9:00 in the morning to 3:00 in the evening.

Science of Food from Farm to Table
Be a food scientist in the Science of Food from Farm to Table week long camps. Kids will get to learn about nutrition of food and the nutrients we get from food. The Science of Food includes lessons about food labelling, balanced diet, food pyramids and food chains. Bring your own sack lunch and drink. Water will be provided all day.

Schedule of Lessons and Activities:
Monday: Learn about Nutrition, Nutrients and Science of Food which will include: Food labeling, food pyramids, balanced diet, food chain and reading a recipe. Tie-dying with dyes made from food.

Tuesday:  lessons about where does food come from?  A Tour of Orchard plus a processing and production plant and learning about nutrition of fruits and how to cook them at the Pasco Specialty Kitchen.

Wednesday: Farm to Table meal planning with local veggies. A tour of local farm plus a visit to the Pasco Farmer’s Market to talk with growers & select ingredients for Pasco Specialty Kitchen, for veggie cooking demo and lesson.

Thursday: lessons about whole grains, multigrain and how do grains get transformed into bread, pasta and more. A tour of wheat farm and experience wheat harvest and the Pasco Specialty Kitchen will have baking demonstration and lesson.

Friday: Traditional Tribal Foods of the Columbia Plateau and sleep over.  Kids will get to set-up tepees, fireside storytelling and star gazing. The Friday sleep over is 3:00 in the afternoon to 9:30 in the morning.

Registration Fee:
Registration fee for joining in this week long day camp is $319 for members, $349 for non-members and $389 for non-members but would like to avail of the camp and family membership for one year. The camp includes all materials, instructions and field trip.
