Here is a little history of Art in the Park: Back in 1947 a group of people decided to get together to work and grow as artists, they started the Allied Arts Association. The first Art in the Park was held in 1950 at the Uptown Shopping Mall in Richland Washington, it was called the Clothesline Show. Since 1950 Art in the Park has gone from being a show of 8 artists to a show featuring more than 300 artists. Art in the Park just recently got its name, before 2008 the show was called the Sidewalk Show. Art in the Park is held each year, normally the same year as the hydroplane races, which is the last weekend in July. The Allied Arts Association holds the annual Art in the Park as their main fundraising event of the year. The money raised during the event are used to fund exhibits, programs at Allied Arts, maintenance of the existing gallery, arts scholarships, and more.
