This weekend and next weekend Columbia Basin College’s theatre department will be performing a rendition of George Orwell’s 1984. Performances will take place in the CBC theatre in Pasco Washington on November 13-14 and 19-20. Each play will begin promptly at 7:30pm. The cost of tickets is $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the door before the show.

George Orwell’s book, 1984, is a story about a society where there is constant war, pervasive government surveillance, and ceaseless government mind control. The story follows character Winston Smith, a man who works for the Ministry of Truth revising historical records so that they coincide with the party’s agenda. On November 13-14, check out The Cascade Natural Gas's Savor the Flavor event going on at the TRAC in Pasco Washington. You don't want to miss out on an opportunity like this one! There will be hundreds of food and cooking related exhibits, celebrity chef demonstrations, Fresh Chef of the Mid Columbia (our local Iron Chef competition), Best Burger competition, live music, a BBQ pavillion, a culinary classroom, liquid libation learning center, and a culinary marketplace. On Saturday, November13 head out to the Sandberg Event Center in West Richland Washington for the Free Family Dance honoring children with special needs. There will be great food, exciting games, tons of fun dancing, and overall just a great evening! Live music will be provided by the Thunder River Boys Band as well as some DJ music and lighting provided by Sound.doc Productions. This event, which takes place from 5:30-8:00pm, is a great place to bring the whole family to! Local restaurants will provide all of the food, no alcohol will be provided.

Ski season is just around the corner and with that comes the annual ski and snowboard swaps. One of our local ski resorts, White Pass Ski Resort, is getting close to opening the slopes for the weekend, but not before the Volunteer White Pass Ski Patrol holds their annual White Pass Ski & Snowboard Swap in Yakima Washington. This annual ski swap, which has been going on for over 40 years now, features new and used snowboards, shaped skis, traditional skis, and a variety of new and used clothing. The ski swap will take place on Saturday, November 6 from 9:00am to 6:00pm, and Sunday, November 7 from 10:00am-3:00pm at the Yakima Fairgrounds. The Richland Public Library of Richland Washington hosts a variety of events for the community and most of these events are free or very reasonably priced. During the month of November, there are a wide variety of family friendly events including a few presentations on Native American culture, movie nights, a puppet show, and more!

Puppet Show by WSU Tri Cities’ Students
On November 10, beginning at 1:30pm students from the Arts in Education class at WSU Tri Cities will be presenting four different puppet shows for children at the story circle. There is no charge.
