The City of Pasco is once again teaming up with Lampson International for the 32nd Annual Cable Bridge Run. I don’t know about you, but I have been looking forward to participating in the 10K portion of this run. For the last several months my dad and I have gone out running along the Columbia River in Kennewick and Pasco Washington. If you aren’t quite ready for a 10K quite yet, don’t sweat it there is also a 5K run and a 1 mile fun run. A timing chip will be used by all participants to track finish times and paces.

No matter which race you choose to participate in the cost is $15 if you would also like a shirt or if you choose to opt out of the shirt then the fee goes down to $10 through December 13. Registration turned in between December 14-17…

On December 14 come out to Kennewick High School for the 5th Annual Kennewick Police Officers vs. Kennewick Firefighters Charity Basketball Event, tip off will take place at 7:00pm. The cost of admission into the game is simply a donation, but you may want to bring some extra cash for your chance to win the raffle. Over the past several years since the recession hit, Tri Cities Washington has almost seemed as if it’s been in a bubble. This is not to say that the Tri Cities are invincible but the area is undeniably maintaining our strong economy. When compared to this time last year when home sales have gone up nearly 15% to 4,516 sales so far this year compared to the 3,918 home sales at this time last year. Not only are home sales up in the Tri City area but so are single family building permits that are issued. For the third year in a row single family building permits issued in the Tri Cities as of October of this year have increased by about 10%.

Tri Cities Washington is home to a large and diverse population of artists. During the weekend of November 13-14 14 of our local artists are opening their studios for you during the Annual Tri Cities' Artists Open Studio Tour. Come and visit each of the artists in their studio and watch them paint, create pottery, sculpt, make jewelry, fiber art, or glass art. Recently Garner Economics released a new study on the top metropolitan areas to have experienced employment growth since before the recession. Across the nation about half of the 370+ metropolitan areas are having a difficult time getting their employment back up like it was before the recession began. The Tri City Washington area is not one of those metro areas to be having trouble bouncing back, in fact they are actually ranked number one out of the 372 metro areas. Compared to five years ago the Tri Cities’ employment has increased by 5.4% from its peak employment rate before the recession. This past September employment was up to 102,200 up 5,500 from the previous September.

This weekend and next weekend Columbia Basin College’s theatre department will be performing a rendition of George Orwell’s 1984. Performances will take place in the CBC theatre in Pasco Washington on November 13-14 and 19-20. Each play will begin promptly at 7:30pm.
