September 15-18 head down to Pendleton Oregon for the 100 year anniversary of the Pendleton Rodeo. This long-time annual event draws huge crowds every year including some of the biggest names in the rodeo circuit and a throng of celebrity rodeo fans. This four-day rodeo is expected to bring in over 70,000 people to Pendleton, a town of about 17,000 residents. One of the biggest reasons for the success of the rodeo is the town’s commitment to staying true to traditions. Some of those traditions started 100 years ago include banning advertising in the arena, keeping the bucking chutes made of wood, maintaining the arena’s center grassy area, and the continual use of volunteers every year. On September 18 the Pasco Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual Sunshine Ball Masquerade event, Carnival by the Canal. The Sunshine Ball is held every year to formally announce the new board members as well as to show appreciation to past board members, volunteers, and community members for their service. Those in attendance must wear a mask; for an idea on what kind of mask to purchase visit any of the following sites: Vision of Venice, Dragon Maker, Il Prato, National Geographic, or Wikipedia. The Allied Arts Gallery in Richland Washington will be hosting the annual Northwest Designer Craftsman exhibition this year. The exhibition began on August 31 and will go through September 24. This annual exhibition began in 1954 and features various art created from traditional material that blurs the line between craft and fine art. The exhibition was primarily created to promote excellence of design and craftsmanship as well as to fuel the public’s appreciation and interest in art and fine craftsmanship.
