Richland Wa Parks and Rec Offering Art Classes

Tri Cities Wa Young Adult with CanvasThe Richland Washington Parks and Recreation will be holding four art classes between now and December for various ages. All of the classes will take place at the Richland Community Center in the Arts and Crafts Room. Registration can be done online by visiting the Parks and Recreation website or calling 509.942.7592; there is a registration fee for each class.

Art Classes for Kids

Art Classes for Kids is an introductory class where drawing and painting skills will be taught. At each session there will be beginning and advanced projects for students depending on their skill level. The class instructor is Julene Brogan. There is a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 students in the class. There will be four sessions, each taking place on Wednesday nights, from now until December with two time slots for each session. There will be a session in September, one in October, one in November, and one in December. Each of these months there will be a session from 3:30-5:00pm and one from 5:30-7:00pm. Cost to attend is $35 for Richland residents and $43.75 for non-residents. A full schedule of classes is available online.

Water Color and Acrylic Painting

The goal of the water color and acrylic painting class is to light a spark in the creative side of your brain. Each session starts with a 30 minute quick technique demonstration by the instructor, Gail Roadhouse, in both mediums. The instructor will then assist you with your own projects, or can supply you with a project. A list of supplies will appear on your receipt when you register, bring your own supplies to class. Classes are for ages 13 & up and will take place on Mondays from 9:30-11:30am. There are four sessions, one in September, October, November, and December. Registration is $30 for Richland Residents and $37.50 for non-residents.

I used to love art, until they failed me because my theory wasn’t up to scratch. I didn’t paint for years after that. I did take it up again after awhile and painted a self portrait and a couple of other pieces in oil. Oil is a great medium but it takes so long to dry which is probably why they don’t offer it as part of the course.

Too bad that photo of the young girl hasn’t got more than just a blank canvas.
