Isaac Stevens Middle School
The school is named after Isaac Stevens who was a popular governor of the territory of Washington in 1853. He was named governor by President Franklin Pierce because of his support during his candidacy. He was elected as a congressman in 1857. He served as a major general during the conflict between the federal government and several states of the United States that had legal slavery of African Americans, which was more popularly known as the American Civil War of 1861-1865.

Isaac Stevens Middle School is located in the county of Franklin, Pasco City, and run by the Pasco School District education agency. It has an approximate student population of 770 with 40 teachers, making up the student-teacher ratio of 19 students for every teacher. Isaac Stevens Middle School believes that reading is the first step to literacy. The Library Media Center of the school offers a wide collection of books and other materials needed to provide for every student’s academic and recreational reading demands. The approximately 16,000 materials, periodicals, and books found in the library support the curriculum of the school, the district, and the state learning goals. It also has 12 computers accessible to students for their class projects and reports. The school focuses on the core academic subjects of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Writing, in line with the state of Washington curriculum.
Under the education reform program of the state of Washington and the “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001”, Isaac Stevens Middle School is offering additional services for educational purposes. The academic tutoring, for example, is for students who have a hard time coping up with lessons. Extra time is being given to them after school.
Aside from developing the students academically, they are also encouraged to join clubs, extra curricular activities, programs, and sports. There is a variety of sports being offered by the school. The students can choose from and join football, volleyball, soccer, cross-country, basketball, bowling, dance, wrestling, tennis, baseball, softball, and track and field.
It is the school’s goal to develop students academically, physically, and socially in an environment free from discrimination and to produce life-long learners and achievers.
